Typical Union Soldier
This 1/9 plate tintype is shown at actual size, and pictures
a good-looking Union soldier with a very serious look on his face. I'd guess
the date at 1863 or '64, but that's only a guess. Notice the patriotic star
field on the brass mat.

His name and "Washington" were recorded inside the
case. I read the name as James Erlie or Ealie, but am not sure these are
right. Try your luck, and let me know if you get it figured out. Write me
